The function of the rear derailleur is to move the drive chain from one gear sprocket to another. The smaller sprockets on the gear cluster produce higher gear ratios. Pedaling in the higher gears requires greater pedaling effort, but takes you a greater distance with each revolution of the pedal cranks. The larger sprockets produce lower gear ratios. Be sure the seat post is completely inserted into the seat clamp and butted tightly against the underside of the seat. Insert the seat post into the bike frame. Be sure that the seat post is inserted past the minimum insertion line. Tighten the seat post binder bolt securely at the desired height.
